Media appearances are daunting, even when you’re just giving an opinion or sharing your expertise and insights. It’s worse when the subject matter is contentious.
But every interaction with the media is also a chance to inform, to explain, to be noticed and to safeguard or enhance reputation.
VOX can enable you to conquer nerves, handle pressure and grasp opportunities when it’s you or your organisation in the spotlight. We can prepare you to engage positively with the media – and, more importantly, with viewers and listeners.
Our one-to-one coaching sessions and group training courses in media communication are flexible.
We can, for example, concentrate primarily or exclusively on making TV appearances or giving radio interviews. We can explore such issues as:
- What makes news?
- What do television and radio need from their interviewees?
- How do you remain calm and confident when you’re being interviewed?
- How do you get a compelling, memorable message across in under a minute?
- How do you avoid spin and cultivate authenticity?
- How do you explain complex ideas succinctly to non-specialists? How can you improve your voice quality, posture and body language?
- How do you deal with tough or hostile questions in media interviews?
Like all our training, this is practical, involving and good-humoured. We create a supportive environment in which participants feel ‘safe’ to examine their communication styles and to explore and rehearse fresh approaches. They are encouraged, through the practical and interactive nature of the course, to contribute their own insights, ask questions and raise individual concerns.
BOOK THIS COURSEWhat our clients say
Six months after my last coaching session with Pete I am still applying what I learnt. Pete is a creative coach with an inspiring array of tools and experience to call upon when coaching clients. Our sessions were focussed, creative and challenging, helping me to target those areas of my professional life I want to develop further.
On the day of the interview I was barely nervous (which is very unusual for me), very confident and performed very well…in fact I would say ended up enjoying it. They have awarded me a fellowship, so it must have worked!
We were all given very constructive feedback by our VOX coach, and got the chance to perfect our presentation skills in front of an honest audience. It was a great opportunity to make mistakes in a friendly environment.
